N meningitidis can cause serious, life-threatening meningococcal disease, which clinically presents as septicemia (infection of the bloodstream), meningitis, or both. The five common groups of bacteria that cause meningococcal disease are A, C, W, Y, and B. Although meningitis isn’t a common disease, once symptoms appear, they can progress rapidly. Meridian is conducting a research study for an investigational MenACYW vaccine.
