The Need for COVID-19 Research

Scientists are still learning about COVID-19 and how long immunity from previous infection and/or vaccination can last. Meridian has enrolled more than 8,000 patients in COVID-19 vaccine trials since research efforts began in early 2020, and continues to enroll participants for research studies of:

  • Vaccines intended to prevent COVID-19 infection
  • Diagnostics intended to detect COVID-19 infection and/or antibodies
  • Medications intended to reduce the severity of COVID-19

SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) is a strain of the coronavirus family. Variants in illnesses like influenza and coronavirus develop from mutations, or changes, to the genes of a virus. These variants can alter how contagious and dangerous viruses may be to those infected.

But this is nothing new — there are many types and strains of influenza viruses, and that’s why scientists have developed so many flu vaccines. It’s also why we may need more than one COVID-19 vaccine.

How to Participate in a COVID-19 Research Trial

Meridian has research sites nationwide that are conducting research studies in a wide range of therapeutic areas. New studies are added every week. You can help fight COVID-19 by joining a study at Meridian.

Beyond helping advance medicine, you may also:
