Pneumonia is a leading cause of serious illness throughout the world, and in the US, it is estimated that about one million adults get pneumococcal pneumonia each year. About 400,000 hospitalizations from pneumococcal pneumonia occur each year.
Researchers are studying an investigational vaccine intended to provide protection against pneumococcal disease in healthy adults ages 65 and older. This study will test the safety and effectiveness and safety of an investigational vaccination compared to an FDA-approved vaccine.
Eligible participants…
- Must be age 65+
- Must NOT have previously received a licensed or investigational pneumococcal vaccine
- Must NOT have previously had pneumococcal disease
- Will receive compensation for study-related time
- Do not need insurance to join this study
